The Hokiklub Tartu Kalev-Välk is an Estonian ice hockey club from Tartu , which was founded in 1994 as Tartu Välk 494 and plays in the Meistriliiga . The club's home games are played in Lõunakeskuse jäähall .

history

The hokiklub Tartu Välk 494, which was founded in 1994, won its first title with the Estonian championship in 1997 . The following year, the team placed second, before winning the championship two times in a row in 1999 and 2000. In 2000, 2002, 2003, 2008, 2011, 2012 and 2015 the club won the Estonian championship seven more times and was runner-up in 2001, 2006, 2007, 2013 and 2014.

Furthermore, the club took in the years 1997 and 1998 on the discharge of the IIHF Continental Cup in part. In a group with the teams Juniors Riga , HK Sokol Kiew and SC Miercurea Ciuc a record of one win, one draw and one defeat was achieved. As third placed in group K, the entry into the next round was missed. In the following year, the club was able to win two wins and lose one game in a group with opponents HK Berkut Kiev , HK Vojvodina Novi Sad and HK Roter Stern Belgrade . Thus, the team finished second in Group C and again failed to make it into the following round.

After more than ten years, the club again took part in the IIHF Continental Cup in the 2009/10 season . Tartu Välk replaced league rivals Tallinn Stars , who filed for bankruptcy before the tournament and was dissolved shortly afterwards. In a group with the teams SC Energija , KS Cracovia Krakau and HK Saryarka Karaganda , the team won a win in extra time and lost two games.

Soccer

In 2006, the club also set up a football department, which became independent in 2008 under the name FC Santos Tartu .

Stadion

The club has played its home games since it was founded in the 600-seat Annelinn jäähall . In 2008, the team moved into a new home ground with the Lõunakeskuse, built three years earlier , which also has a capacity of 600 spectators.
