The HK Berkut Kiev ( Ukrainian ХК Беркут-Київ ) was a Ukrainian ice hockey club from Kiev , which took part in the East European Hockey League (EEHL) between 1997 and 2002 . The club played its home games in the sports palace Awangard, which has 700 seats.

history

The club was founded in 1997 and immediately started playing in the East European Hockey League . In addition, Berkut finished second in the 1998 Ukrainian championship. In the 1999/2000 season of EEHL, the club won the playoff final against city rivals HK Sokol Kiev 3-0 and thus the EEHL championship. In the following season, the EEHL title was won again, and the club was champions of Ukraine in 2000, 2001 and 2002. In 2002 the club stopped its activities due to a lack of sponsorship money and over-indebtedness.

Re-establishment

In 2004 an amateur team was founded under the name HK Berkut , which took part in the second division of Ukraine from 2005. Since the 2005/06 season, this team, which consists mainly of ex-professionals, played in the top division of Ukraine and was runner-up in 2006 and 2007.

The club won the Ukrainian championship three times - in 2000, 2001 and 2002. In 1998 and 1999 he was runner-up. In addition, the team won the EEHL in 2000 and 2001.
