KS Cracovia is a Polish ice hockey team from Krakow , which was founded in 1906. The ice hockey department belonging to the sports club of the same name plays in the Ekstraliga in the 2015/16 season .

history

The ice hockey department of KS Cracovia was founded in 1923, while the main club was founded in 1906. The first major success for Cracovia was winning the Polish championship title in the 1936/37 season . In the years after World War II , Cracovia dominated national ice hockey and won another four championships. However, winning the title in the 1947/48 season is considered controversial, as it was awarded at the green table by the Polish ice hockey association PZHL . The team was only able to build on this successful period after the turn of the millennium, when they became one of the best teams in the Ekstraliga . From 2006 to 2013, the team won five more championship titles within eight years. In 2014 they won the national cup competition for the first time . This triumph could be repeated two years later. In the 2015/16 season Cracovia won the championship and cup double and in 2017 the championship again. In 2019 Cracovia only finished fifth in the main round, but was able to reach the final series through victories over fourth JKH GKS Jastrzębie and main round winner GKS Katowice , where they then had to bow to the defending champion and main round second GKS Tychy with two wins and four defeats .

At the European level, KS Cracovia took part in the IIHF Continental Cup several times as a Polish representative , but has not been able to achieve any major successes there. KS Cracovia was able to participate in the Champions Hockey League in the 16/17 and 17/18 seasons - each as a champion of one of the challengers. So far, no one has won points in the CHL.
