The Pomorski Klub Hokejowy Gdańsk ( German "Pomeranian Ice Hockey Club Danzig" ) is a Polish ice hockey club from Gdańsk , which was founded in 2014. Its professional team has been participating in the first-class Ekstraliga game since 2016 .
history
Ice hockey has been played at Stoczniowiec Gdańsk since the 1970s . Before the 2011/12 season Stoczniowiec Gdańsk withdrew his professional team for financial reasons from the game operations of the Ekstraliga and initially only had a youth division.
In 2014 a new ice hockey club was founded under the name MH Automatyka Stoczniowiec 2014 Gdańsk to continue the ice hockey tradition of Stoczniowiec. From 2014 he took part in the second-class I league with one team . In the 2015/16 season (which only lasted until November 2015, as only two teams participated), the club became champions of this second division and thus rose to the Ekstraliga. In his first season in the Ekstraliga, the club was able to keep the class by a 4-2 series in the playouts against Nesta Toruń .
After the 2018/19 season, the MH Automatyka company withdrew as the main sponsor. In the summer of 2019, the mineral oil group Grupa LOTOS took over the sponsorship of the association, so that the association was renamed Lotos PKH Gdańsk .
