Grupa Lotos ( LOTOS ) is a listed Polish mineral oil company based in Gdansk . The company's share is traded on the Warsaw Stock Exchange and is included in its WIG20 leading index .
Until June 2, 2003 the company operated under the name Rafineria Gdańska SA, which expresses one of the main activities of the group: the operation of the second largest refinery in Poland, which is located in Gdańsk. LOTOS also operates three small refineries in southern Poland (Rafineria Czechowice SA, Rafineria Nafty Glimar SA and Rafineria Jasło SA).
The group sells its products at a total of 506 filling stations in Poland, including 312 of its own and 194 operated by franchise partners. After PKN Orlen and BP , LOTOS now operates the third largest petrol station network in Poland. The company's share of the total fuel trade in Poland is 32.7%.
The subsidiary LOTOS Oil SA is a leading supplier of lubricants in Poland, which are sold under the brand names LOTOS and TURDUS.
Grupa LOTOS is trying to build up an upstream business. In February 2005, 69% of the company PPiEZRiG Petrobaltic SA was taken over.
In recent years there have been repeated reports of a possible merger with PKN Orlen , the second Polish oil company . The Polish state is the majority shareholder of Grupa LOTOS with 53.19% of the shares and minority shareholder of PKN Orlen.
