AmRest is a listed Spanish catering company based in Madrid . The company operates 2,339 system catering operations in several European and Near Eastern countries.

The company's share has been listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange since April 27, 2005 and has been included in its WIG30 leading index since December 20, 2019 .

history

Henry J. McGovern, Donald M. Kendall, Sr., Donald M. Kendall, Jr., and Christian R. Eisenbeiss founded American Retail Systems in May 1993 . At the beginning, the company had franchise rights for Pizza Hut and Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) restaurants in western Poland .

In the Czech Republic , American Retail Systems took over Yum! Brands operated KFC and Pizza Hut restaurants.

AmRest Holdings SE was founded in 2000 as a joint venture between American Retail Systems and Yum! Brands founded. In 2001 the holding company took over International Fast Food Polska Sp. Z oo (IFFP) , which operated 23 Polish Burger King restaurants. Following the acquisition, 17 restaurants were converted to Kentucky Fried Chicken and six were closed.

The remaining KFC and Pizza Hut franchises in Poland and the Czech Republic were acquired by Yum! Brands taken over. AmRest thus became the only operator of the two system catering concepts in these two countries.

On April 27, 2005, AmRest went public (IPO) on the Warsaw Stock Exchange. In the course of the IPO, Yum! Brands its share in the joint venture.

In 2006 seventeen franchise companies were taken over in Hungary and the new system catering concepts Freshpoint and Rodeo Drive were launched on the market. In addition, eight Big Foot restaurants in the Czech Republic were taken over and converted into Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants.

In 2007, the first own Burger King restaurant and the first Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants in Serbia and Bulgaria were opened in Poland . A contract was signed with Starbucks that gave AmRest the rights to Starbucks cafes in Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary.

Burger King restaurants were added in Bulgaria and Russia in 2008. The first Starbucks opened in January 2008 in Prague . In May 2008, AmRest took over 80 percent of the US Apple Grove Holding , the second largest Applebee's -Franchisenehmers with over 100 restaurants in eight states of the United States.

In 2010 AmRest opened the first Starbucks in Hungary.

AmRest entered the Spanish market in 2011 following the takeover for 205 million euros from Restauravia , operator of 30 KFC and 120 La Tagliatella restaurants in Spain. The La Tagliatella restaurants offer products from Italian cuisine , preferably from the regions of Liguria , Piedmont and Reggio nell'Emilia . In April 2013, the third restaurant in Germany was opened under the La Tagliatella brand. In 2015, AmRest took over the subsidiaries in Bulgaria and Romania with 19 Starbucks from Marinopoulos Coffee SEE BV .

In April 2016 it was announced that AmRest would hold 100% of the shares in Starbucks Coffee Deutschland Ltd. & Co. KG and thus its 144 coffee houses in Germany.

In May 2017, AmRest took over the German business from Pizza Hut. There are plans to expand the brand more strongly in the future and to more than double the number of currently around 80 branches in Germany, which is to be done in particular through delivery and express branches.

In 2017, the company's shareholders decided to move the company's headquarters from Poland to Madrid, Spain.

  • Burger King : 72 locations (including 45 in Poland, 20 in the Czech Republic, 2 in Bulgaria, 3 in Slovakia and 2 in Romania)
  • La Tagliatella : 284 locations (including 238 in Spain, 6 in France, 2 in Germany and 2 in Portugal)
  • Pizza Hut : 483 locations (of which 157 in Poland, 69 in Russia, 26 in Hungary, 17 in the Czech Republic, 121 in France, 85 in Germany, 2 in Armenia, 2 in Azerbaijan and 3 in Slovakia)
  • blue frog : 79 locations (72 in China and 2 in Spain)
  • KABB: 2 locations
  • Bacoa Burger: 10 locations (all in Spain)
  • Sushi Shop: 179 locations (including 125 in France, 6 in Spain, 3 in Germany, 3 in Portugal, 11 in Belgium, 3 in Italy, 2 in Luxembourg, 5 in the United Kingdom, 7 in Switzerland, 3 in Saudi Arabia , 10 in the United Arab Emirates and 1 in the Netherlands)
  • Starbucks : 376 locations (of which 73 in Poland, 49 in the Czech Republic, 34 in Hungary, 52 in Romania, 14 in Bulgaria, 145 (plus 20 licensed) in Germany, 7 in Slovakia and 2 in Serbia)

In addition, the company maintains the following virtual brands, which are sold exclusively via delivery services :

  • Pokaï: virtual brand; Distribution through delivery services (Deliveroo, UberEATS etc.) in France, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Germany and the United Arab Emirates
  • Lepieje: Virtual Brand; Distribution through the delivery services Glovo and Pizza Portal in Poland

Shareholder structure

In April 2010 the private equity company Warburg Pincus offered 300 million zloty (approx. 68 million euros ) for a 24.99 percent share . Warburg Pincus sold this stake to Finaccess Capital SA de CV in 2015 . The purchase price was not disclosed.
