Energa (Grupa Kapitalowa Energa) is a Polish energy company based in Gdansk . The company produces and sells electricity and thermal energy and is involved in the electricity market in northern and central Poland.

Energa reaches over 3.1 million customers. The distribution network maintained by the company consists of power lines with a total line length of over 190,000 km and extends over an area of ​​almost 75,000 km² - around 24 percent of the country. This makes the company the third largest distribution network operator in Poland in terms of both the amount of energy supplied and the length of the cables installed and the number of customers .

The company's shares are traded on the Warsaw Stock Exchange and are included in their leading indices WIG20 and WIG30 .

history

In 2005, eight existing power plants in northern, central and eastern Poland were merged to form the so-called Group G-8, the origin of today's Energa Group. On January 1, 2005, Koncern Energetyczny Energa SA, based in Gdansk (now Energa Operator SA), started operations. At the initiative of the Ministry of Finance, Koncern Energetyczny Energa SA and Zespół Elektrownia Ostrołęka SA were founded on December 6, 2006, and in May 2007, due to further restructuring processes, acquired the status of the Group's parent company. Energa Koncern Energa and Zespół Elektrownia Ostrołęka SA became its subsidiaries.

Energa SA was listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange on December 11, 2013 . The value of the IPO was PLN 2.4 billion.

Business areas

The company's activities are divided into four central business areas:

  • The Production segment (Polish : wytwarzanie ) includes activities related to the generation of electricity in the field of conventional and renewable energies , the generation and distribution of thermal energy, and the maintenance and repair of energy generation systems.
  • The Distribution division ( dystrybucja in Polish ) bundles the activities for the operation of an electrical distribution network
  • The sales division ( sprzedaż in Polish ) deals with energy wholesale and retail and the provision of lighting services
  • The Other (Polish : pozostałe ) division encompasses the in-house provision of services for group companies in the areas of accounting, human resources, administration, information and communication technology, financing, property management, logistics, procurement and security.

Shareholder structure

The share capital of the Company is 4,522,000,000 zloty and is divided into 269,139,114 bearer shares of AA series and 144,928,000 registered shares of BB series; the nominal value is 10.92 zlotys each. The bearer shares each grant one vote at the general meeting ; the registered shares two votes each. All registered shares are held by the Polish state.

On May 20, 2020, the company announced that it had been informed by the Ministry of State Assets that the Polish state had sold all of its shares in the company to the oil company PKN Orlen with effect from April 30, 2020 . The state thus remains indirectly involved in Energa; he is the largest single investor in PKN Orlen.
