TAURON Polska Energia SA is the second largest Polish energy group (after PGE ) with its headquarters in Katowice .
The company was founded in 2006 by the Polish government through the merger of several state-owned companies.
The company has been listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange since June 2010 . It is listed in the WIG30 share index.
Business areas and areas of activity
The company's activities are divided into five central business areas:
- The raw material extraction business area primarily comprises the extraction, processing and sale of hard coal in Poland.
- In the area of production activities are for generating electrical energy from conventional (eg. Charcoal ), and renewable energy sources (eg. Biomass and water - and wind force ) organized. In addition, there is also the production of thermal energy .
- The distribution area includes the operation of an electrical distribution network in southern Poland.
- The sales segment bundles activities for the sale of electrical energy to end customers, energy wholesale , trading in CO 2 certificates and trading in fuels .
- The Others segment bundles the remaining activities of the corporate group. In addition to internal services for the group companies (especially customer service , administration , accounting and IT ), this also includes the mining of rocks (including especially limestone ), the production of sorbents for flue gas desulphurisation in power plants and sulfur reduction in melting furnaces as well as the extraction, transport and processing of Biomass.
The group is primarily active on the Polish home market. Activities in other European countries are limited to the sale of electrical energy to foreign customers, mainly from the Czech Republic (198.8 million zloty ) and Slovakia (3.1 million zloty).
