Energy is the collective term for the entirety of all technical, economic and social facilities, processes and principles that concern the generation, transport, trade and use of energy by humans. The three central topics are energy supply (production and distribution), energy use (“consumption” of energy) and energy use (energy use in production and in services).

The individual areas include:

• the energy industry with the areas of energy generation , energy storage , energy transport , energy trading and energy services
• the energy technology with the fields of power plant engineering , electrical power engineering , energy process technology , power engineering , nuclear engineering and regenerative energy technology
• the energy policy , with energy advice and the like
• the energy law
• the energy research and - sciences , as some interdisciplinary fields of physics , the technical - and Geosciences
