The Santander Bank Polska SA (2001-2018 as Bank Zachodni WBK SA shortened, and BZ WBK ) is a universal bank in Poland , the majority of the Spanish Santander Banco belongs Corporation. It is one of the largest banks in Poland with total equity of 27 billion zloty (6.1 billion euros ) and assets of 209.5 billion zloty (47.7 billion euros).
The company's share is traded on the Warsaw Stock Exchange and is included in its WIG30 leading index .
history
The bank was created on June 13, 2001 through the merger of the banks Bank Zachodni SA and Wielkopolski Bank Kredytowy SA . Marian Górski , who had been in this position at Wielkopolski Bank Kredytowy since 1996 , became chairman of the board . From May 2007 to November 2016 Mateusz Morawiecki was chairman of the board.
On September 10, 2010 it was announced that the Spanish Banco Santander had acquired a 70.36% stake in Bank Zachodni WBK SA from the Irish Allied Irish Banks for around 2.9 billion euros. Banco Santander also paid an additional 150 million euros for 50% of the shares in BZWK AIB Asset Management . The total value of the transaction amounts to 3.1 billion euros.
In February 2012, the parent company Banco Santander announced the merger of Bank Zachodni WBK with Kredyt Bank , a subsidiary of the Belgian KBC Group . The majority shareholder in the new money house will be Banco Santander with 76.5%, while the KBC Group will initially have a stake of 16.4%. Minority investors will hold 7.1% of the shares. KBC Group has also announced that it will sell its shares.
