The Weingut Friedrich Kiefer is one from Baden family winery in Eichstetten am Kaiserstuhl with 15 hectares able Eichstetter Mr. Buck . It is planted with the heavyweight on Pinot Noir. Furthermore, grapes from contract winemakers with a total of 92 hectares are vinified and marketed, which are considered producer bottling . This makes the winery one of the largest wineries and cellars in Germany.

history

In 1851, the winery was founded in the center of Eichstetten by the teacher Friedrich Kiefer, who came from the Markgräflerland . In 1886 his son Fritz Kiefer took over the winery and managed it until 1930, when it was taken over by his two sons-in-law Gustav König and Friedrich Grafahrend. Gustav König's daughter Hanna Körner born. König worked in the company together with her husband Siegfried Körner and their daughter Vera Hammer. After the family had sold their shares in 1990 and left the company, Lutz Grafahrend managed the company as the sole owner. Since there was no interested successor from his own family, the son of a winemaker and oenologist from Eichstetten, Martin Schmidt, who had been the manager of the winery since 2003, became the successor . He and his wife Helen Schmidt took over the winery in 2008 to continue running it as a family business. In 2011 a bottling plant for bag-in-box wines was put into operation. In addition to traditional sales through specialist retailers and restaurants, the company is increasingly focusing on online marketing.

The wines of the winery received 1 red grape in the Gault-Millau 2012 wine guide, 2 stars in the Eichelmann wine guide and 2 stars in Wein-Plus .

Locations

The winery itself cultivates 15 hectares of the 350 hectare "Eichstetter Herrenbuck" site. The Herrenbuck is one of the higher elevations of the Kaiserstuhl and is covered with loess and loess clay soils up to 30 meters thick ; in the highest part there is also volcanic weathered soil. The higher elevation extends the vegetation phase so that the harvest begins later than in the other locations of the Kaiserstuhl.
