List of grape varieties
Gewürztraminer

Gewürztraminer , also called Roter Traminer or Gelber Traminer , is a white wine variety with yellow-reddish berries. The term Klevner or Clevner is also permitted in the Baden cultivation area . In general, different varieties are distinguished depending on the berry color (red berries: Roter Traminer , light red / yellow-pink: Gewürztraminer , yellowish: Gelber Traminer ), all of which, however, can be referred to as Gewürztraminer. In Alsace , the Gewurztraminer or Gewur (t) zcalled. The origin is unclear (probably southeastern Europe, possibly also Egypt). The name comes from Tramin in South Tyrol , where wines have been documented under this name since the 11th century. In Germany , the cultivation of the grape variety around the year 1500 is recorded in a mixed rate (e.g. with Riesling ). Gewürztraminer produces very aromatic wines with a scent reminiscent of rose petals and lychee .

Cultivation

The low- acid Gewürztraminer ripens medium-late with rather low yields, reaches high must weights and is characterized by intense aromas. Rose, litchi, kumquat, bitter orange and marzipan are flavor and smell notes that are characteristic of the variety. The vine places high demands on location and soil ; the latter should be easy to warm up, deep and not too dry. The variety tends to develop stingy instincts . In the event of an infection with the stickworm- transmitted brushwood disease , the crop failure is greater than the average compared to other grape varieties.

The grape variety is susceptible to mutation , so there is a wide variety of varieties.
