List of grape varieties |
Mennas is an autochthonous white wine variety from the Swiss canton of Valais . It is a cross between the white varieties Gewürztraminer and Gwäss . The white wine variety Gwäss has been grown in Valais since the 16th century.
The idea for this crossing arose from the desire to give the low-acid but voluminous and extremely fruity Gewürztraminer more acid and thus a better structure and good shelf life. Under the direction of Hans-Peter Baumann from Turtmann , after 15 years of breeding work, a multi-layered and dense white wine with an elegant acid structure was created, which has been grown exclusively by the grower himself on 0.2 hectares since 2000 in Visperterminen .
This Valais white wine is very fruity on the nose and is reminiscent of litchi, pineapple and quince. The round prelude on the palate is followed by a dense middle section, accompanied by a beautiful acidity structure and an extra-long finish.
