Wein-Plus is an internet portal on the subject of wine .

Wein-Plus was founded in 1998 by Utz Graafmann, who runs the company as managing director in a GmbH with around 20 permanent employees. The headquarters are in Erlangen .

Content

The portal offers a wine guide, a wine glossary and an online magazine. Wine critic Marcus Hofschuster and his team taste, describe and evaluate wines for the wine guide . Negative evaluations are sometimes the subject of disputes. The ALDI company repeatedly asked Wein-Plus to remove an unfavorable rating of some ALDI wines. In addition, the wine producers and wine regions are described and special wine collections are awarded annually. The Wein-Plus glossary contains explanations of around 22,000 wine terms.

There is also a wine search engine and a web catalog. The content is editorially created by wine experts.

Some parts of the website are reserved for paying members.

distribution

The content is published on the Wein-Plus.eu domain in German and English (as of April 2017). The German language offer consists of more than 500,000 pages, the English language offer is less comprehensive.

According to the operator, over 200,000 users have registered on the Internet platform so far. Most of them use the German pages and come from the German-speaking area.

Wein-Plus only exists as an Internet offer, no printed wine guide is published.

Wine guide

Wines are regularly tested, described and rated for the Wein-Plus wine guide by a permanently employed tasting team led by Marcus Hofschuster. The wine tastings take place blind (i.e. without the knowledge of the producer) and always in the neutral tasting room of the Wein-Plus editorial team, i.e. not at trade fairs or at the producer himself.

The wine guide is focused on Europe and lists the top 10 percent of European wineries (as of June 2017).

The best assortment submitted each year within a growing area is awarded the collection of the year every year . In 2017 these were the following producers:
