Warburg Pincus, LLC is a US-based private equity -Unternehmen based in New York City , more than 95 billion dollars managed private equity.

Warburg Pincus operates with a focus on growth financing. The portfolio includes companies in the consumer goods, industry & services, energy, financial services, health, real estate and technology, media & telecommunications sectors. To date, 13 equity funds have been set up, of which approximately USD 81 billion (as of March 2020) have been invested in over 890 companies in more than 40 countries. Warburg Pincus invests from a global fund that was closed in 2013 with an investment volume of 11.2 billion US dollars.

history

The company's roots go back to Eric M. Warburg , who belonged to the German Warburg banking family. In 1939 he founded EM Warburg & Co in New York City as a financial investor.

When Warburg returned to Germany in 1965, Lionel Pincus, former partner of the Ladenburg Thalmann Investment Bank, took over the business. In 1966 EM Warburg merged with Lionel I. Pincus & Co. The new company was now called EM Warburg, Pincus & Co. Lionel Pincus ran the company from 1966 to 2002. He died in 2009.

In 1983 Warburg Pincus started its investment activities in Europe. In 1994 the first office in Asia was opened. The company is owned by its partners and is led by Chip Kaye (Chairman) and Timothy F. Geithner (President).

Warburg Pincus in Germany

In Germany, Warburg Pincus had an office in Frankfurt am Main until 2014. In 2015 René Obermann , former CEO of Deutsche Telekom, was hired as a partner in London; Warburg Pincus has had an office in Berlin since 2019. The investment focus is on medium-sized companies in the fields of technology, media & telecommunications, healthcare and energy. In the past, these included Easycash and United Internet .

Participations in Germany

  • 2006: Petrotec, biodiesel manufacturer, share for around 70 million euros. 2008 sales of around 42.1 percent of the shares in IC Green Energy Ltd .
  • 2006: Acquisition of Vital Fettrecycling
  • 2006: Acquisition of Easycash, the leading German network operator for processing card-based, cashless payments. First Data , the previous owner of Easycash and also active in the electronic payments market, offered 100 percent of its easycash shares via an auction in which both strategic and financial investors took part. 2009 Sale to Ingineco for 290 million euros.
  • 2008: Acquisition of the Conergy Wind wind production business from Conergy . The former Conergy Wind division now bears the new name PowerWind GmbH. After the bankruptcy in 2012, the service business was taken over by GES Germany, a subsidiary of the Spanish GES Global Energy Services. The inventory and fixed assets and the IP rights went to the Indian company RK Wind.
  • 2009: Minority stake of 10.003 percent in Kontron , an international provider of embedded computer technology. In 2017, Kontron went to S&T .
  • 2011: Minority stake of 5.29 percent in United Internet, an Internet provider. End of 2012 sale of the shares.
  • 2014: Acquisition of stake in Blue Yonder, sold to JDA Software in 2018 .
  • 2015: Acquisition of IPAN, sold to Castik Capital in 2018.
  • 2016: majority stake of 59 percent in Inexio, sold to EQT Infrastructure in 2019.
  • 2016: 33.33 percent stake in 1 & 1 Internet
