First Data Corporation is a US company headquartered in Sandy Springs, Georgia . It is a provider of e-commerce solutions for payments. First Data's line of products and services includes business processing and processing services; Credit card, debit card, prepaid card, gift card, payroll and other prepaid performances; Fraud protection and authentication solutions; Electronic check acceptance services through TeleCheck; E-commerce and mobile payment solutions. The company is active in banking and was founded in 1971. In 1994, Western Union was bought by First Financial Management Corporation , which in turn merged with First Data a year later . On January 26, 2006, First Data announced plans to spin off Western Union as an independent, publicly traded company. Western Union became an independent company.

In 2007, First Data was taken over by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts .

First Data has a 20% stake in the electronic cash network service provider WEAT, and First Data has owned the network service provider TeleCash since 2003.

The takeover by Fiserv was announced in mid-January 2019 .

In 2003 TeleCash GmbH & Co. KG, Stuttgart (Telecash), which previously belonged to Deutsche Telekom, became a subsidiary of First Data. In 2003 TeleCash was the market leader in electronic payments via EC and credit cards in Germany, had 340 employees and generated an annual turnover of 80 million euros with 166,000 point-of-sale terminals.

In 2006 the Telecash company took over the company Gesellschaft für Paymentsysteme mbH, Bad Vilbel (GZS).

criticism
