Early history

In the Neolithic Age , band ceramists settled on the site of today's Dortelweil. In the second half of the first millennium AD, the Franks began to settle and set up village settlements.

Middle Ages and Early Modern Times

Between 774 and 786 Dortelweil is mentioned in donations to the imperial monastery Lorsch . They are the oldest recorded mentions of the place.

It was awarded to the Free Imperial City of Frankfurt am Main in 1292 and then belonged to its territory for almost 600 years as one of eight rural communities . The residents of Dortelweils were serfs of the Frankfurt Council and obliged to do labor. Serfdom was not finally abolished until 1818

The particular law of Dortelweil was particularly complex: Here the Frankfurt Reformation and, in a multilevel subsidiary manner, the Solms land law and common law applied . This remained with the transition to the Grand Duchy of Hesse so and did not change until 1 January 1900, when the same across the whole German Reich applicable Code Civil entered into force and replaced the Partikularrechte.

Modern times

In 1853 the villagers were given the right to vote for the legislative body , the legislature of the Free City of Frankfurt .

After the annexation of the Free City of Frankfurt by Prussia in 1866, Dortelweil left it to the Grand Duchy of Hesse with the peace treaty of September 3, 1866 .

On December 31, 1971, the place was incorporated into Bad Vilbel as part of the regional reform. Dortelweil is thus the only former rural community in Frankfurt that has not been incorporated into Frankfurt over the years.

Population development

The district received a special boost in terms of both new residents and workplaces through the designation of the Dortelweil-West development area. From the mid-1990s to around 2006, around 900 residential units were built on 80 hectares of former arable land in private homes and a few multi-storey buildings, plus a district center with a shopping center (Brunnen-Center), the social infrastructure and community facilities. Dortelweil grew by over 2500 inhabitants.

economy

Due to the short distances to Frankfurt a. M. an important location for the service industry. The listed pharmaceutical group STADA Arzneimittel AG has had its headquarters in Dortelweil since the 1950s . In addition, after a few specialist stores and a furniture store, personnel-intensive companies such as Lahmeyer International or First Data Germany have settled.

Office buildings were built along the old B3, in which several job-intensive service companies have settled. This prevented the development of Dortelweil-West into a pure dormitory city . With the establishment of the European School RheinMain , a private grammar school with the final offer of the EU Abitur, Dortelweil-West has received another regional focus since 2012.

Infrastructure

rail

Dortelweil has a stop on the Main-Weser-Bahn , a stop on the S6 line of the Rhein-Main transport association .

Street

Waterworks Ensemble and Stada

The bundesstraße 3 (B3) Dortelweil is connected with its own connection point. The B3 in the direction of Frankfurt has been developed as a yellow motorway . The K10 runs through Dortelweil between Bad Vilbel and Karben. As Friedberger Strasse, this district road is the main axis of the modern part of the town. The headquarters of the large companies, the culture and sports forum and the main shopping facilities in the town are located on it in the Brunnen-Center. The street is characterized by works of art and fountains.

Coming from Bad Vilbel, you first pass the artwork “Torhaus” by Klaus J. Tippmann on the first roundabout opposite First Data Germany. The brick-built gate is intended to symbolize the entrance / exit to the city and create an arc from the Roman past to the modern age. The middle of the through-town is formed by the second roundabout with a water feature. This fountain at the level of the fountain center forms an eye-catcher with alternating fountain on the one hand and contributes to reducing speed on the other. Across from the Bad Vilbel town hall, which was built as the headquarters of Allianz Dresdner Bauspar AG, ER Nele's “Walking Man” artwork stretches across Friedberger Straße. A wire rope is stretched between twisted stainless steel pillars on both sides of the street, on which a figure made of stainless steel strips ropes .

The passage ends 200 meters further on at a last roundabout. In the middle is the “Wasserwerk Ensemble” fountain by Klaus J. Tippmann. The fountain in the middle is surrounded by four steel bridges, which are arranged so that there are different views from each side of the roundabout. The through-town ends with the headquarters of the Stada at this roundabout.

Route 64 of the Vilbus connects Dortelweil with the core town of Bad Vilbel.

Culture, leisure and sights

Culture and sports forum

In the new center of Dortelweil there is the culture and sports forum, a combination of a sports hall with a concert or event hall. Here there is a three-field sports hall, an event hall with a stage, meeting rooms, school support and, since spring 2006, the Efzet-Forum youth center.

Efzet forum

The EFZET-FORUM is a municipal facility for young people in the city of Bad Vilbel and the new youth center for the Dortelweil district. In addition to the youth café, it offers various seminar rooms, courses, band rehearsal rooms ... and would like to contribute to the leisure activities in Bad Vilbel with open youth work.

Leisure and sports

Many associations and initiatives are active in Dortelweil. The Dortelweil Sports Club, SC Dortelweil, was founded in 1959 and offers athletes the sports of football, gymnastics and gymnastics.

The SC Dortelweil sports field is located in the old town center, directly on the Nidda. This can be reached via the extension of Untergasse. The sports area has a grass pitch and a hard court, on which an artificial turf pitch has been available since 2007. Furthermore, the youth departments have two small fields for training units and games for the lower youth. All football junior departments of the SCD are fully staffed and have also been expanded to include a women's team. The first team plays in the group league Frankfurt am Main (West).

The largest sports club in the Wetterau is also a Dortelweiler club. The SV Fun-Ball Dortelweil was founded in 1996 and now has almost 4,000 members. The founders' idea was initially to offer ball sports such as badminton, basketball and volleyball - hence the “ball” in the name. Today everyone who wants to do sports will find something suitable in 22 departments. Training takes place both in the Am Siegesbaum sports hall and in the culture and sports forum in Dortelweil. The sports hall Am Siegesbaum (Bj. 2001), a three-field sports hall with 3 additional halls, a gymnastics and fitness room is, apart from the school sports of the rainbow school, used exclusively by the fun ball. The 1st badminton team of SV Fun-Ball has played in the 1st Bundesliga since 2013.

Bad Vilbeler Golfclub Lindenhof eV has existed since 1994 and has built an 18-hole golf course in the Niddawiesen in the east. In connection with the Niddalauf, which was renatured in 2009/10, and the numerous small ponds in the facility, the result is an interesting landscape that can be experienced from the terrace of the golf hotel.

Further cultural and leisure activities

In summer, Bad Vilbel's cultural department organizes a number of open-air jazz events, such as jazz under the plane trees in the spa gardens and other concerts in the districts of Massenheim, Dortelweil and Gronau. Admission to these performances is generally free.

Dortelweiler curb

Dortelweil celebrates the traditional curb every second weekend in September . Originally located at the Dortelweiler sports field in the old town center, this has been taking place since 2005 in the Culture and Sports Forum in Dortelweil West. The event is accompanied by the Dortelweiler grocery boys and girls, who take care of the stage program on Saturday evenings as well as general organizational tasks.

A landmark of Dortelweil is the Evangelical Church in the old village center on the Niddaschleife. Originally from the Middle Ages, it later became dilapidated and - probably during the Thirty Years' War - destroyed. The renovated church was consecrated again in 1699, and the baroque roof turret also dates from this time . Today's interior in the classicist style was created between 1823 and 1825. However , the pulpit from the Renaissance is much older . She was originally built in 1678 demolished Gothic predecessor the Frankfurt Catherine's Church and was from there to Dortelweil translocated .
