Delivery service

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Delivery services (or express service ) is in the sales logistics a service , the basis of existing orders or sales orders of products of their own or a foreign company whose transport to the customer operates.

General

Delivery services are not a new trend, because the pizza delivery service can be traced back to the establishment of the American pizza chain Domino's Pizza in June 1960 at the latest . Delivery services mostly deal with the transport of goods between a manufacturer or dealer and the customer. The transport is carried out by means of transport such as motor vehicle, motorcycle, moped or bicycle.

Delivery services must not be confused with the delivery service , an evaluation criterion for a supplier evaluation of a delivery service provided.

Legal issues

In addition to product quality , delivery times play a major role in delivery services . Because the delivery time determines the due date of the delivery , which is the prerequisite for the delivery delay . If the contractually agreed calendar delivery time is exceeded, the supplier is automatically in default of delivery ( § 286 Paragraph 1 BGB), a reminder is then not required (§ 286 Paragraph 2 No. 1 BGB). The delivery must still be possible (not an impossibility ) and also be catchable. The legal consequence is initially a reasonable grace period (maximum 30 minutes for delivery services; Section 281 (1) BGB). After the expiry of this period the customer may according to § 323 BGB from the contract withdraw and damages demand ( § 346 para. 4, § § 280 et seq. BGB, § 325 BGB) or delivery and possible damages (damages for delay according to §§ 280 para. 1 and 2 BGB in connection with § 286 BGB). This also applies to delivery services, which usually do not agree on a delivery time, but delivery can be expected between 30 and 45 minutes after ordering.

particularities

In the course of the COVID-19 pandemic , which started in China in December 2019 and has been occurring worldwide since 2020, individual delivery services also made a "contactless delivery" available for order options in order to introduce both suppliers and customers to avoid contact to protect against reciprocal lung disease contagion.

economic aspects

The delivery time, i.e. the period between receipt of order and delivery to the customer , is essential for delivery services . As soon as retailers offer delivery services, they face the challenge of carrying out the last mile distribution as cost-effectively as possible. Delivery services that are tightly organized and have constant communication with the transporters are ideal for this purpose.

They are either independent companies ( Takeaway.com and its subsidiary Lieferando in Germany) or belong to a dealer / manufacturer ( Coop or Tesco ). They transport meals ( fast food , junk food , street food ), and convenience food as lunch at the workplace is now also delivered by delivery services, books ( Subito ) or other freight ( Trans-o-flex Express ) are transported by special mail order companies. The document delivery service Subito is a cooperative service of the German libraries and guarantees the customer a delivery time of 72 hours, in the case of urgent requests even a delivery time of 24 hours. Further examples are courier express parcel service , milk delivery service , pizza service or meals on wheels . The delivery service for pharmacies is organized by the pharmaceutical wholesaler in order to ensure the proper supply of pharmaceuticals ( Section 12a, Paragraph 1, No. 2 ApoG ).

Grocery delivery service

The market development of purchase delivery services in Germany still shows great market potential . In the USA, however, this form of distribution logistics is a common additional service in supermarkets . Portals that offer online ordering from restaurants are also popular. Some customers prefer to order online, some suppliers (e.g. restaurants, pizza service) want the order by email and process the payment online.
