The acronym "trans-o-flex" stands for "transport organization of particular flexibility". The amalgamation of five independent freight forwarding companies to form an interest group led to the establishment of the fast delivery service trans-o-flex in 1971. In the 1970s and 1980s, the company tapped a market niche with the fast, area-wide distribution of high-quality goods in the business-to-business sector (from business customer to business customer). The official start of the nationwide trans-o-flex was preceded by a foundation phase in the 1960s. Back then, pharmaceutical manufacturers were looking for a quick distribution solution for their products directly to pharmacies. At the same time, it was hoped that this would expand further sales channels: hospital pharmacies, drugstores and health food stores. In the years that followed, the company developed very quickly and trans-o-flex established itself firmly in the chemical, pharmaceutical, cosmetics, recording and entertainment electronics industries.

In 1982 the first international subsidiary was founded, which started cooperation with international express services throughout Western Europe ("euro express"). Each of the cooperation partners has a nationwide distribution system in their respective country. 1985 trans-o-flex was acquired by Franz Haniel & Cie. acquired. The previously decentralized structure of trans-o-flex has been changed and a nationwide head office has been set up. In 1993 the company began to set up its own European distribution network. Today, EURODIS is a network for international transports established in 36 European countries, which complements uniform quality standards and consistent shipment tracking with country-specific additional services. This cooperation of leading national logistics service providers specializes in the joint transport and delivery of goods in packages and on pallets. This combined freight offer makes it easier for senders and recipients to handle shipments and increases shipping flexibility. The network is controlled centrally by EURODIS GmbH in Weinheim (Germany). In addition to trans-o-flex (Germany), the members include companies such as Redur (Spain / Portugal), SDA (Italy), Österreichische Post (Austria), PostNL (Netherlands) and Bonafide (Switzerland). In 2018, EURODIS members employed 50,000 people, controlled 25,000 vehicles, transported around 610 million shipments and turned over 3.6 billion euros.

At the end of 1995, the Schoeller / Amberger investor group took over the trans-o-flex corporate group from Haniel. Shortly afterwards, the former competitor Lo-Go Lieferservice GmbH & Co. KG is taken over. The aim of the merger was the stronger alignment of the core competencies as well as the use of the strengths of both companies in relation to the requirements of the customers. A takeover of trans-o-flex by Deutsche Post (since 1997 with a 24.8% stake) failed in 1999 due to competition law objections by the European Commission after Deutsche Post wanted to increase its stake to over 75%. In 2000, Deutsche Post was able to completely take over the six foreign subsidiaries of trans-o-flex in Austria, Hungary, the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy and Denmark, a second takeover attempt by trans-o-flex Germany in cooperation with BayernFinanz (investor since 2000 , in the 1st quarter of 2005 75.2% stake) was prohibited by the Federal Cartel Office and this decision was confirmed by the Federal Court of Justice at the end of 2004 .

In March 2003, the company founded the first Distribution GmbH, which was responsible for deliveries to the 40 network locations in Germany at the time. In March 2004, the separation of the operative business from the headquarters was completed and the Distribution GmbH also took over the Leave shipments. From March 2005 the company belonged to the financial investor Odewald & Compagnie and Alpha Beteiligungsberatung. In January 2007 Austrian Post took over 74.9 percent of the shares in trans-o-flex and its affiliated companies. trans-o-flex itself took over the Kerpen-based TT Tour-Trans Group (special logistics for the cosmetics, household and entertainment electronics industries) in August 2005 and the competitor ThermoMed (temperature-controlled transport) in October 2006. In October 2007 trans-o-flex took over Van Osselaer Pieters Colli Service (VOP) in Belgium and Dedicated Distribution Services (DDS) in the Netherlands. Both companies were sold to the Dutch PostNL in 2013. With effect from June 30, 2008, Austrian Post took over the remaining shares of 23.85 percent. In March 2016, Austrian Post again sold its entire shares (100%) in equal parts to Amberger Familien GbR and Schoeller Holding. The owners of Loxxess and the Schoeller brothers were already shareholders of trans-o-flex in the past (1995 to 1998).

The three new business areas of Pharma, Cosmetics and Consumer Electronics defined in 2016 appear under the uniform brand trans-o-flex.
