Natalino Leitão
Natalino dos Santos Leitão († 1975 ), fighting name Somotxo , was Adjunto Político and member of the Central Committee (CCF) of the East Timorese party FRETILIN , which sought independence from Portugal in 1975. When Indonesia began to occupy the territory, it was decided on November 28, 1975 to declare independence. Leitão hastily designed the flag of East Timor , which was placed on it that night.
On December 7th, Indonesia began invading the rest of East Timor. Natalino Leitão was killed in the process.
When East Timor regained its independence in 2002, the Leitãos flag was reintroduced as the national flag.
