The Allgemeine Hotel- und Gastronomie-Zeitung (ahgz) is a subscription newspaper for the hotel and catering industry that appears on Saturdays by Matthaes Verlag .

In addition to the weekly newspaper, digital sources of information are available to readers: ahgz.de, the IVW-tested industry portal with the widest reach in Germany, as well as various newsletters, e-papers and apps.

The front page with an enlarged lead image is an eye-catcher. The person interviewed for the big interview is shown on the top right of the title and breaks through the newspaper head . In addition to lead articles, news and editorial, the title page also includes the heading “Quote of the Week”, the glossary “Bottom left” and headlines on regional and national topics. Since 2015 there has been the “Next Generation” pages with young topics and “Around the world” with reports from abroad. Two double pages are reserved for the hotel and catering sectors . The front page is now called “Regions and Metropolises”. The newspaper ends with three editorial pages “People”, “Training and Career” and “Discovered for you”.

The AHGZ gives rankings u. a. of the largest hotels in Germany. It also organizes the important industry event Hotelier of the Year and the German Hotel Congress.

Every two months the Allgemeine Hotel- und Gastronomie-Zeitung is accompanied by the magazine “der hotelier”, printed in newspaper format, the content of which consists of interviews, portraits and reports.

Alternating with "der hotelier", the magazine "der gastronom" has been appearing since October 2019, which also appears as a supplement to the AHGZ.

AHGZ hotel design

Since September 2012 the magazine "AHGZ Hoteldesign" has been published several times a year, which deals with the topics of construction, design and technology in hotel businesses and is aimed at hotel developers and investors, hotel operators and owners, architects, designers, project managers and construction companies.

Hotelier of the year

The AHGZ has presented the Hotelier of the Year award annually since 1990 . The award is given by the industry for the industry and is not endowed. The hotelier of the year industry award is given to personalities who have made a special contribution to the hotel industry. In addition, the jury can award up to two special awards for outstanding achievements from the branch environment, for an extraordinary business idea and its successful implementation or for concepts to promote young talent to institutions or personalities.

The AHGZ website generates around one million page impressions per month. Users have access to around 140,000 articles in the online archive and can thus research back to the year 2000. In addition, the editorial team sends a daily, up-to-date newsletter "AHGZ am Morgen" to more than 38,000 addressees.

The AHGZ job market is also represented online. Jobsterne is Germany's job market with the most vacancies from the hotel and catering industry. The aim of Jobsterne is to track down all available vacancies for the hotel and catering industry and to make them easy and quick to find for job seekers. Job boards, career websites, personnel consultancies and job boards of companies are recorded and listed.
