The Matthaes publishing is a magazine publisher in Stuttgart .

history

The publishing house was founded in 1905 by Hugo Matthaes, who managed it until 1931. The publications from the beginning included the Süd- and Mitteldeutsche Fleischer-Zeitung and Der Maler . Hugo Matthaes, the founder's son, ran the publishing house from 1931 to 1981, and from 1952 together with his wife Amalie M. Matthaes.

In 1944 the publishing house was destroyed by an air raid. The reconstruction and new beginning at the Stuttgart-Degerloch locations took place in 1946. Several moves followed: Marienstraße (1947/48), Hospitalstraße (1949–1953), Olgastraße (1953) and finally to Silberburgstraße in 2005.

In 1947, the Allgemeine Hotel- und Gaststätten-Zeitung (AHGZ; renamed Allgemeine Hotel- und Gastronomie-Zeitung in October 2006 ) as well as the trade journals Konditorei und Café (KoCa) and Allgemeine Bäcker-Zeitung (ABZ) appeared for the first time after the war .

In 1948 the Mineralwasser-Zeitung and Die Müllerei followed , in 1949 the beer wholesaler and from 1951 the German hotel guide . In 1968 the specialist magazine Hotel + Restaurant was finally taken over.

Between 1981 and 2004 the company was run by Hugo Matthaes, the grandson of the company founder, until 1998 together with his mother Amalie M. Matthaes. In spring 2004 the publishing group Deutscher Fachverlag , Frankfurt / Main took a majority stake in the company.

In 2012, Matthaes Verlag in Paris received the Gourmand World Cookbook Award as Best Cookbook Publisher of the Year for its cookbook segment.

In addition to various specialist newspapers and magazines, Matthaes Verlag publishes a large number of specialist books for the hotel, catering, confectionery and bakery sectors.
