Gourmand World Cookbook Award
The Gourmand World Cookbook Award is a prize that honors the best cookery and beverage books in the world in various categories. It was founded by Edouard Cointreau in 1995 as the "World Cookbook Awards". In 2001 the name was changed to the current form. The award ceremony took place at various locations, including a. in London , Beijing , Kuala Lumpur and Grythyttan in Sweden. It has been taking place in Paris since 2009 , first in the Palais Royal , then in the Folies Bergère . In total, prizes are awarded in more than 40 categories for cookbooks and 18 for drinks books (as of 2008).
The aim of the award is the "good cuisine" of all nations, to promote international understanding and thus to achieve a greater awareness of good, diverse and healthy food and drink worldwide.
In 2009 over 8,000 books from 136 countries were submitted. They first had to qualify in national competitions. An international jury consisting of four to five members divides the books into the award categories.
