Harumi Kurihara

Harumi Kurihara ( Japanese 栗 原 は る み , Kurihara Harumi ; born March 5, 1947 in Shimoda ) is a prominent housewife and a TV star in Japan.

She is also often called the "Japanese Martha Stewart " and has been famous in Japan for over 20 years. She is the talk show host of numerous TV shows, author of Suteki Recipe ("wonderful recipes"), a quarterly cookery and recipe magazine that sells 5 million copies, as well as over 20 cookbooks and lifestyle magazines. A range of cookware is also named after her. She is the president ( shachō ) of the household goods company KK Yutori no Kūkan ( 株式会社 ゆ と り の 空間 , dt. "A room to relax").

She was born in the coastal town of Shimoda and never received professional training as a cook. Their cuisine combines traditional with newer western influences. She is married to former news anchor Reiji Kurihara, who originally encouraged her to start a TV career. He is now chairman ( kaichō ) of Yutori no Kukan .

Harumi's first cookbook was called Gochisōsama ga, Kikitakute. ( ご ち そ う さ ま が 、 き き た く て。 ), which means: “I want to hear: It was delicious.” Her first cookbook to be translated into English was Harumi's Japanese Cooking . ), which was recognized as the best cookbook of the year and the best Asian cookbook in the world at the tenth Gourmand World Cookbook Awards in 2004. Your book was chosen from a pool of 5000 cookbooks from 67 countries. It was published in German in 2006 as Harumi's Japanese Kitchen ( ISBN 978-3-8310-0880-3 ), followed in 2007 by Simply Japanese Cooking ( ISBN 978-3-8310-1101-8 ).
