Chakall (born June 5, 1972 in Tigre near Buenos Aires ; actually Eduardo Andrés Lopez ) is an Argentine cook , cookbook author and television chef .

Life

Chakall has Galician , German - Swiss , French - Basque , Italian and Argentine ancestors and relatives . He grew up relatively wealthy by Argentine standards. His mother was a cook in a restaurant in Buenos Aires. He studied journalism at the University of Salvador . He also worked as a journalist for the daily newspaper El Cronista in Buenos Aires. He then wrote music reviews for the music magazine Rolling Stone . From an early age he traveled a lot in the world. For example, he traveled to Africa to get to know the cuisine there. There he discovered the typical turban that replaced the chef's hat .

In total, he has been to over 90 countries. He runs restaurants in Lisbon and Porto and runs a catering service. In Portugal he also hosts a TV cooking show . He gained fame in Germany through his book Chakall kocht , which won the Gourmand World Cookbook Award 2010 in the category “Best Cookbook by a TV Chef”, and appeared on the cooking show Lanz kocht! Chakall also appears on Chinese TV cooking shows and hosts live cooking shows in major cities. In February 2013, Chakall opened an Argentine restaurant in Berlin-Schöneberg . Together with Frank Buchholz and Tarik Rose , he can be seen in the program Beef Buddies on ZDFneo since August 2013 . Since March 9, 2018 he took part in the 11th season of the RTL show Let's Dance and took 11th place.

Private

The nickname "Chakall" was given to him by his mother when she was a child, as she compared him to a jackal . Chakall, who describes himself as a cosmopolitan , speaks Spanish , English , French , Portuguese , German and some Arabic . Chakall is married and has four children. He currently lives in Berlin and Lisbon.
