El Cronista ( Spanish for "the reporter" ), until 1989 El Cronista Comercial , is an Argentine daily newspaper from Buenos Aires . It was founded in 1908 by Martin Antonio Giménez. The first edition was published on November 1, 1908.

history

For most of its history, El Cronista has been a subscription newspaper . In 1973 Rafael Perrotta took over the management of the publishing house. Perotta was arrested during the military dictatorship and disappeared on June 13, 1977. His body was never found. After the kidnapping of Rafael Perrota, the newspaper was sold to the owners of the magazine Mercado (Spanish: market ). These were Julián Delgado, Raul Sarmiento and Mario Alberto Borrini Sekiguchi. The former also disappeared during the dictatorship. Since the newspaper wrote rather critically, journalists were kidnapped again and again.

In 1986 the newspaper was bought by Eduardo Eurnekian. In 1987 he decided that the newspaper should no longer be sold as a subscription, but rather in individual sales . In the course of time it was also sold outside of Buenos Aires and is now sold nationwide. In 1989 the original name was changed to El Cronista. It was the first Argentine newspaper to be published on the Internet in 1994.
