Lojze Wieser (* 1954 in Klagenfurt , bourgeois Alois Wieser ) is a Slovenian-speaking Austrian book publisher and author .

Life

After completing his book and trading apprenticeship, he worked in bookshops and printing companies and founded his own printing company in Vienna . From 1981 to 1986 he was head of Drava Verlag , which his publishing house bought in 2016.

During the war in Slovenia in 1991, he was the coordinator of the information procurement center of the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation (ORF) and organized exile for authors from the area of ​​ex-Yugoslavia.

Since 1987 he has been the owner of Wieser Verlag . To this day, it is Wieser's programmatic goal to publish unknown literature from Slovenia and other countries in Eastern and Central Europe in German translation with the help of his publishing house . In 1990 Wieser received the first Austrian State Prize for Publishers.

Because of his special achievements for the cultural climate in Carinthia under Jörg Haider , he was awarded the professional title of Professor by the Austrian Federal President Thomas Klestil in 2004 at the suggestion of Andreas Khol . In 2007 he was awarded the Dositej Obradović Prize for his services to the publication of Serbian literature .

Gastrosoph Lojze Wieser and Martin Traxl have had their own cooking program on ORF since September 2013 . The title of the broadcast and film cookbook series The Taste of Europe refers to the book and audio book series Europa erlese . In this way Wieser reaches the literary cookbooks of Europe gastrosophically, as Peter Handke of Europe cooks up uses .

In 2016, Wieser Verlag GmbH acquired Drava Verlag from Klagenfurt , which is now managed by a Wieser employee. The previous Drava owners received 35% of Wieser Verlag GmbH as compensation.
