Drava Publishing House

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Drava Verlag ( Slovenian : Založba Drava ; official Company: Drava publishing and printing Gesellschaft mbH / Založniška in Tiskařská družba z oj ) is a book publisher in Klagenfurt , where a printing plant is connected.

The company was founded in 1953 and until 2016 belonged to the Zveza slovenskih organizacij ( Central Association of Slovenian Organizations , ZSO). The reason for the establishment was that at that time there was no printing company in Carinthia ready to print the weekly newspaper Slovenski vestnik published by the predecessor organization of the ZSO . The publisher publishes books in German and Slovenian. Drava is the Slovenian and Serbo-Croatian name of the Drava River .

The publishing program includes books that deal with Carinthia and the Carinthian Slovenes as well as with the topic of multilingualism; also literary works by Maja Haderlap, among others . The publishing house also carries out German translations of the works of Ivan Cankar and Slovenian translations of the works of Peter Handke .

Franz Marenits (* 1954; † 10 January 2010), who had previously been editor at Wieser Verlag , was the publisher's director from mid-2007 until his death . His successor was Peter Wieser. He was followed in January 2016 by Erika Hornbogner, who has been with Wieser Verlag since 2014.

In 2016 Drava Verlag was taken over by Wieser Verlag GmbH, but, as Lojze Wieser and Erika Hornbogner announced in a circular from May 2016, it will continue to be run as an independent brand with its program profile. In return, the long-term owners of Drava Verlag received 35% of Wieser Verlag GmbH.
