Klaus Ottomeyer

Klaus Ottomeyer (* 1949 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German psychologist , psychoanalyst , traumatologist, ethno-psychoanalyst and retired professor at the Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt .

Career

Ottomeyer studied sociology, psychology and ethnology in Frankfurt am Main, Freiburg im Breisgau and Bremen. He did his doctorate in Bremen. He then worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Sociology and Ethnology at Heidelberg University.

From 1975 to 1981 Ottomeyer was assistant professor at the Psychological Institute of the Free University of Berlin, specializing in social psychology and comparative social theory.

Activities and awards

From 1983 until his retirement in 2013 he was a full professor for social psychology at the University of Klagenfurt with a focus on work with foreign and domestic victims of violence and the psychology of right-wing extremism .

He has additional training in ethno-psychoanalysis and psychotraumatology and is a licensed psychological psychotherapist. Ottomeyer is chairman of the board of the ASPIS association , which in 2011 received a Bruno Kreisky Prize for services to human rights .

Klaus Ottomayer has been on the advisory board of Instahelp.me - a portal that offers online psychotherapy - since 2015.
