General

570 people find a new home every year in three Neuner houses and in their own apartments - looked after by "Neine House Housing First" and "Neine House Mobile Social Work". If necessary, social work support is offered, but the residents should be able to live as independently as possible. This includes your own apartment key, opportunities to visit, pets and no alcohol ban. In addition, homeless people can have their animals treated and examined at the Neunerhaus veterinary care center. The animals are often the last companions of homeless people. Other free offers are the Neunerhaus Dental Practice , the Neunerhaus Medical Practice and the Neunerhaus Mobile Doctors . General medical care is offered in 23 facilities of various supporting organizations. In 2017, a total of 4418 patients were cared for and 29,113 consultations were carried out. The Neunerhaus provides medical care for homeless and homeless people as well as uninsured people regardless of their origin.

In 2005 the association started a project called “Haubenküche zum Beisl-Preis” and published the first book in the series that same year. Five volumes were published from 2005 to 2008. One volume was published in cooperation with the association “Poverty and Health in Germany” and appeared in paperback for the first time in 2010. For these recipe collections, award-winning chefs have created dishes that cost less than 5 euros to prepare. Residents of the house also published their favorite recipes.

history

As early as 1998, some citizens from the ninth district of Vienna showed initiative when Mayor Michael Häupl presented statistics that stated that the homeless were fully covered. The long-time managing director Markus Reiter was among the founding members at the time. Today there are a total of three residential buildings and over 170 apartments, the tenants of which are looked after by “Housing First”. A total of 570 homeless and homeless people are offered a home here. There is also a health center in the Neunerhaus and the Housing First reform approach initiated by the Neunerhaus in Vienna in the Viennese aid for the homeless. In June 2015, after three years of construction, the newly built Neunerhaus was opened in Hagenmüllergasse, which now offers 79 instead of the previous 59 homeless people. It is also the first house with an ecological passive house standard in the social area and was awarded the Austrian State Prize for Architecture in 2017.

particularities

The Neunerhaus differs from other aid organizations and allows the people affected to lead an independent life by offering their own house keys, allowing pets, not prohibiting alcohol and providing medical care. In addition, the area of health forms a separate focus of care. In 2012, the Neunerhaus also introduced an innovative approach to social work with homeless people in Vienna with the Housing First project . Housing First has been implemented successfully in the USA for years. In 2015, the "nineerhaus Housing First" went from a pilot project to a fixed offer of the city of Vienna's homeless assistance.

health Center

Many homeless and homeless people suffer from multiple illnesses and often have painful and bad teeth. The Neunerhaus dental practice at Margaretenstraße 166 has a total of 16 hours of ordination four times a week and also helps patients with bureaucratic hurdles, legal information and offers care regardless of origin and insurance status. In 2015, 1589 patients were treated in 4499 treatments.

Nine house doctor team

The nineer house doctor team works on site in the homes of formerly homeless people and works with various supporting organizations. A good doctor-patient relationship, sufficient time, strengthening of health literacy and continuous help are the cornerstones.

doctor's office

The nineerhaus doctor's practice offers general medical practice free of charge for all homeless and homeless people in Vienna, regardless of their origin or their insurance status . The most obvious distinguishing feature from other medical practices is the combination of general medical and social work help: Social workers guarantee unbureaucratic low-threshold access for homeless people and offer help beyond general medical questions.
