Piotr Sarnik (born February 15, 1977 in Dąbrowa Górnicza ) is a former Polish national ice hockey player who played on the position of the striker. After retiring in 2013, he worked as a coach for the Polish Ice Hockey Federation.
Career
Piotr Sarnik began his career in the academy of the Polish Ice Hockey Association in Sosnowiec, for whose first team he made his debut in the Ekstraliga at the age of 18 . With Olimpia Sosnowiec he played in the 1996/97 season in the East European Hockey League . From 1997 to 2001 he played - only interrupted by one year at league rivals KTH Krynica - at GKS Katowice also in the Ekstraliga. After a year with Zagłębie Sosnowiec , he joined GKS Tychy , for whom he was on the ice from 2002 to 2004 and from 2006 to 2009 and with whom he won the Polish Cup in 2007, 2008 and 2009 . Between his engagements in Tychy, Sarnik played for two years at KS Cracovia , with which he became Polish champion in 2006 . After 1½ years, which he had again spent with Zagłębie Sosnowiec, he went to Krakow again at the turn of the year 2010/11 and was Polish champion with Cracovie 2011 for the second time. In 2012 he moved again to Zagłębie Sosnowiec, where he only played for half a year, only to join Aksam Unia Oświęcim at the turn of the year 2012/13 . After actually ending his career at the end of the season, he played again for Zagłębie Sosnowiec in the I league , the second highest Polish league, in the 2014/15 season before ending his career.
For Poland , Sarnecki took part in the junior division at the U18 B European Championship in 1995 .
In the senior sector, he was in his country's squad at the 1997 B World Cup and, after changing to the current division system, at the Division I World Championships in 2003 , 2004 , 2005 , 2006 , 2007 , 2010 and 2012 .
Trainer
At the end of his active career, Sarnik began his career as a coach and worked for the Polish Association , where he was an assistant coach alongside the team at the Polish ice hockey academy in the I league and was also responsible for the U20 team at the 2014 , 2015 , 2016 and 2017 world championships . In the first half of 2016, he also took over the head coach position at his old club Zagłębie Sosnowiec .
