The KS KTH Krynica (official name: Klub Sportowy Krynickie Towarzystwo Hokejowe ) is an ice hockey team in the small Polish town of Krynica-Zdroj . The club plays in the I league , the second highest Polish division. The team plays its home games at Miejski Ośrodek Sportu i Rekreacji w Krynicy-Zdroju (Krynica-Zdrój Municipal Sports and Recreation Center).
history
The association was founded on December 28, 1928 in Krynica. The 1931 ice hockey world championship took place in the KTH Krynica ice rink.
After the Second World War, KTH Krynica became Polish champion in 1950 . After a temporary stay in the second class I league , he was promoted to the Ekstraliga in 2010. For the 2011/12 season, the financially troubled club received no license for the Ekstraliga and thus had to accept relegation to the I league. But just two years later, the team rose again to the Ekstraliga. On December 2, 2013, the licensing committee of the Polish Ice Hockey Association initiated proceedings against the club with the aim of revoking its license because payments had not been made to the association. The team was finally able to play the season to the end, but lost their best players to other clubs, with the result that they were no longer competitive and slipped from the interim lead to sixth place in the table. At the end of the season, the team withdrew from the Ekstraliga and has been back in the I league since then.
Furthermore, the club took part in the hosting of the IIHF Continental Cup in 1999 and met in the second round on the Latvian representative HK Liepājas Metalurgs , SC Miercurea Ciuc from Romania and the league competitor Dwory SSA Unia Oświęcim . With a record of one win, one defeat and one draw, the team finished second in Group G and was eliminated from the competition.
