history

The Jantor ice rink , the club's venue

The club was founded in 1920 under the name Górnik Janów as a football club . The ice hockey division was established in the late 1940s and twice won the runner-up in the early 1950s. In 1962 the club was renamed Naprzód Janów. As a result, further second and third places in the championship were achieved - the club's greatest success was winning the cup in 1970.

In the 1990s, the club had increasing financial problems and the best players switched to city rivals GKS Katowice . The game was stopped in 1998 and only resumed in 2004. 2006 succeeded with the second place in the first division of the promotion in the Ekstraliga , from which the club 2011 relegated again. Three years later they were promoted again to the Ekstraliga, from which the team had to relegate again in 2016. The team then developed into an elevator team: After the team was unable to hold their ground in 2018 after being promoted again immediately, the Polska Hokej Liga played out again in 2019 .

The full name of the association bears the name of its main sponsor Akuna, a manufacturer of dietary supplements.
