Asker is a municipality in Viken in Norway , and a western suburb of Oslo , right on the Oslofjord . It is in the diocese of Oslo . Asker was part of the former Akershus Province until December 31, 2019 . Asker borders on the municipalities of Bærum , Drammen , and Lier .

On January 1, 2020, the municipalities of Hurum and Røyken were incorporated.

Sports

The community's sporting flagship is the women's football club Asker FK ( Asker SK ). The club has been Norwegian champions six times and cup winners five times. After a forced relegation, the team has been back in the top series , the top division, since 2007 . In 2009 the first team was dissolved and integrated into the Stabæk IF club , the substructure continues to appear as Asker FK.

The men's team appears under the name Asker Fotball and will play in the second-class Adeccoligaen for the first time in 2011 .
