Life

Princess Astrid was born on February 12, 1932 at Villa Solbakken in Oslo. Her baptismal name was Astrid Maud Ingeborg. She is the second child of Olav V of Norway , his wife Princess Märtha of Sweden and sister of the current Norwegian King Harald V . She spent her childhood on the Skaugum estate . Between 1940 and 1945 she lived with her parents and siblings, first in Sweden, then in exile in the USA. After the war she returned to Oslo. In 1950 she graduated from high school in Oslo and then studied for two years in Oxford .

She was the first woman in the state since her mother's death in 1954 as her sister Ragnhild had already married a middle-class man and lived in Brazil . Princess Astrid took over the representative duties at the side of her father until the wedding of her younger brother Harald in 1968. Then the Crown Prince couple Harald and Sonja took over this duty. Because of her longstanding commitment to Norway, the Norwegian government has been paying her a pension since 2002.
