Princess Ingrid Alexandra was born on January 21, 2004 in Rikshospitalet in Oslo and is the first child of Crown Prince Haakon Magnus and Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway. Her brother, Prince Sverre Magnus of Norway , was born on December 3, 2005. The princess also has a half-brother, Marius Borg Høiby (born January 13, 1997), from a previous relationship with Mette-Marit.

The princess was named after Mette-Marit's grandmother and Queen Ingrid of Denmark (1910-2000). The second name Alexandra was chosen because King Olav V of Norway (1903-1991) was originally named Prince Alexander of Denmark.

Ingrid Alexandra was baptized on April 17, 2004 in the Castle Church of the Royal Castle in Oslo. Her godparents are King Harald V of Norway, Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark , Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden , King Felipe of Spain , Princess Märtha Louise of Norway and her grandmother Marit Tjessem.

The princess grew up on the Skaugum estate in Asker . From 2006 she attended a public kindergarten and from 2010 a public primary school in Asker, since her parents attach great importance to allowing their children to grow up like middle-class children. In 2014, the Norwegian royal court announced that Princess Ingrid Alexandra will attend the private school Oslo International School.

Representative tasks

Princess Ingrid Alexandra already has some public obligations. This includes welcoming the traditional children's parade on the Norwegian national holiday, May 17th, from the balcony of the Royal Palace, and representing the royal family at sporting events such as ski jumping on Holmenkollen .

Succession to the throne

The princess takes second place in the Norwegian line of succession behind her father Haakon . This became possible because a change in the law was passed in 1991 that extended the previously purely male line of succession to include first-born female descendants. Ingrid Alexandra could become the first Queen of Norway as head of state .

British succession to the throne

Princess Ingrid Alexandra is also represented in the British line of succession . Through her great-great-grandmother, Queen Maud (1869-1938), born Princess of Great Britain and Ireland, she is there (August 2013) on the 75th place - behind her younger brother, Sverre Magnus and her father Haakon .
