The Princess Astrid Coast ( Norwegian Prinsesse Astrid Kyst ) is a stretch of coast of the East Antarctic Queen Maud Land . S lies between 5 ° and 20 ° east longitude. The Crown Princess Martha coast connects to the west and the Princess Ragnhild coast to the east . It borders on the Lazarew and Riiser-Larsen Seas , both marginal seas of the Southern Ocean .
The coast was discovered in March 1931 by Captain Hans Halvorsen , who steered the whaling mother ship New Sivilla . The coast was named after Princess Astrid of Norway (* 1932).
Several countries have research stations in this area.
