The 2S19 Msta-S ( Russian 2С19 Мста-С , named after the west Russian river Msta ) is a self-propelled howitzer developed in the Soviet Union . From 1989 it was introduced to the Soviet Army to replace outdated armored artillery systems such as the 2S1 or 2S3 .
history
The howitzer was shown for the first time at the aerospace exhibition in Zhukovsky near Moscow in August 1992 and then at the IDEX-93 show in Abu Dhabi, where it demonstrated its driving and fire properties.
technology
The 2S19 is manufactured by the Ural Transmash factories in Yekaterinburg . The hull of the tank is made up of elements from the T-72 and T-80 . The 152 mm gun is located in the 2A65 tank turret. Msta-S has a high accuracy and rate of fire. Thanks to the howitzer's automatic loading system, it can fire eight to ten projectiles per minute. The combat set includes 50 grenades.
The Msta-S has a fire control system (Russian abbreviation: ASU), which consists of the components of ballistic computers, devices for topographical measurement and orientation, and a satellite navigation system. Information on at least ten fire tasks can be saved. The system can be networked with observation posts, unmanned aerial vehicles of the Ptschela ("bee") type and early warning aircraft of the Beriev A-50 type via encrypted and unencrypted connections .
The crew is in the turret while firing. The breech of the gun is provided with a hermetically sealed cover. There is an ABC protection system.
variants
- 2S19SM: Modernized version with computer-controlled fire control system and GPS or GLONASS system. Compared to the basic variant 2S19, a combat value increase of 40% could be achieved.
- 2S19M2: Version with increased rate of fire, upgraded electronics, improved armor and changed coloring and other changes to make it more difficult to detect optically, in the infrared and by radar. From 2013 in service in the Russian army.
- 2S19-SM2: The variant is also carried under the internal designation 2S33, which is, among other things, the predecessor model of the future 2S35 howitzer . However, the armament does not differ from the 2S19M2 variant.
- 2S30 Iset: Export model with 155 mm cannon in NATO standard caliber
