Aspens Rud

Espen Rud (born January 29, 1948 in Asker ) is a Norwegian jazz drummer.

Live and act

Rud's career as a jazz musician began in Oslo in the 1960s. He played in Ditlef Eckhoff's quintet in 1965 and worked with Svein Finnerud from 1967 to 1974 , with whom he recorded three LPs. In 1968 he began studying at the Conservatory, took part in a recording of Karin Krog and founded his own band. In 1969 he was a member of Arild Boman's ensemble.

In the 1970s he worked a. a. with Mal Waldron (1971), Magni Wentzel and Bjørn Johansen (1973), Dexter Gordon ( Tokyo 1975 ), the Christian Reim Sextet and the Jon Balke Quartet (1973-74), the Guttorm-Guttormsen Quartet (1974 -78) and the Radka-Toneff Quintet (1975-76). In 1978 he took part in an India tour with Karin Krog. Between 1978 and 1983 he headed the Kråbøl group . In 1983 he received the Buddy Prize .

From 1980 to 1989 Rud was a member of the Trondheim New Cool Quartet . He also worked with Erling Aksdal (1980), Christian Reim (1980–81 and 1983–84), Warne Marsh , Pepper Adams and Kenny Wheeler (1981), the Per Husby Quintet (1982–83), and Chet Baker (1983 ) and Lee Konitz (1983 and 1985).

In 1991 and 1992 he performed with the pianist Michael Bloch , after which he formed the trio REW with Christian Wallumrød and Johannes Eick . In 1998 he received the Spellemann Prize for the album Rudlende . With Torbjørn Sunde he led the group Fire Fyrer ( Prøysen goes jazz , 2012).
