Torbjørn Yggeseth (born June 18, 1934 in Asker , † January 10, 2010 ) was a Norwegian ski jumper .
Career
Yggeseth was internationally successful for the first time in 1959 on the Kulm , when he won the ski flying competition with 127 meters. In the same year he was named Norway's Sportsman of the Year . In 1960 Yggeseth, who started for Heggedal IL, competed at the 1960 Winter Olympics in Squaw Valley . He finished fifth on the normal hill. From 1962 he started at the Four Hills Tournament . In his first competition on December 28, 1962 in Oberstdorf , he was able to jump on the podium with 3rd place. After a 7th place in Innsbruck and 6th place in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , he was able to win his first jumping on the tour in Bischofshofen . In the end, he finished 2nd in the tour's overall ranking. At the Norwegian Championship on the normal hill in Kristiansand , he won the silver medal behind Torgeir Brandtzæg . In the same year he was honored with the Holmenkollen Medal for his successes together with Astrid Sandvik , Pawel Koltschin and Alewtina Koltschina .
He also took part in the 1963/64 Four Hills Tournament and won the opening competition in Oberstdorf. After two rather mediocre competitions in Innsbruck and Garmisch-Partenkirchen, he jumped on the podium again in Bischofshofen with third place and, as in the previous year, finished second in the overall ranking. One month after the tour he was part of the squad for the 1964 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck . On the normal hill he jumped to 14th place, which he had to share with the Finn Niilo Halonen and the American Gene Kotlarek . He jumped from the large hill to 28th place. It was his last international competition.
Yggeseth was chairman of the ski jumping department at the FIS until 2004 and was replaced by Jouko Törmänen . Yggeseth resigned after an argument between him and the jumper Anette Sagen became public. He spoke out publicly against women in ski jumping, even though he had promoted women's jumping in 1996. Yggeseth came under fire as early as 1988 when he openly spoke out against the V-style developed by Jan Boklöv with the words “We do not want such a development within the FIS” . He also intended to fire judges who did not rate this style with a point deduction.
