Anette Sagen (born January 10, 1985 in Mosjøen ) is a former Norwegian ski jumper . With a total of 45 individual wins and 88 podium finishes in the Ladies Continental Cup , the Oslo-based student is one of the most successful ski jumpers in the world.
Career
Sagen started ski jumping at the age of eleven. Four years later she took part for the first time in the FIS Ladies Grand Prix , a series of competitions with four venues similar to the Four Hills Tournament . At the event, which was not yet one of the official FIS competitions in 2000, she was able to place in the top ten twice and took eighth place overall. A year later, she took fifth place in the jumping in Schönwald and was tenth in the overall ranking.
In the 2001/02 season, Anette Sagen made her breakthrough to the top of the world. At the FIS Ladies Grand Prix she achieved a place on the podium in all four competitions. In Saalfelden and Rastbüchl she finished second in Baiersbronn and Schonwald each third party. In the overall standings she took second place behind the outstanding winner Daniela Iraschko from Austria. This season she won the gold medal in both the individual and the team at the unofficial Junior World Championships in Stryn.
Sagen won ahead of the American Lindsey Van in her first international senior senior competition, the Ladies Continental Cup on January 11, 2003 in Planica , Slovenia . Says, which Van gives as their role model, jumped the best distance in both rounds and won with a margin of almost 30 points. This season she took part in nine competitions, five of which she finished as winner and four as runner-up. These placements secured her victory at the FIS Ladies Grand Prix ahead of the Austrian Eva Ganster .
Sagen also confirmed their exceptional position in the 2003/04 season with five wins. So she again won the FIS Ladies Grand Prix. In the 2004/05 season she won eight Continental Cup competitions, came second twice and third once. Sagen won the first overall ranking in the Ladies Continental Cup with almost 300 points ahead of Lindsey Van and Daniela Iraschko. In the following three seasons she confirmed this result and won the overall ranking of the Continental Cup by a clear margin. In her most successful season to date, 2007/08, she was able to show a record of ten wins and five second places in 15 participations in Continental Cup competitions. In 2006 and 2008 she also won the FIS Ladies Grand Prix again.
At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Liberec in 2009 , she won the bronze medal in the women's competition, which was held for the first time. In the 2008/2009 season she won the overall ranking of the Continental Cup for the fifth time, although she only won four competitions this season.
Sagen jumped her personal best of 174.5 meters in 2004 on the Vikersundbakken in Vikersund as a pre-wrestler at the World Cup. The jump was preceded by a controversy in the Norwegian media as to whether women were allowed to jump from a ski jumping hill or not. This was initially only conducted between Sagen and Torbjørn Yggeseth , the chairman of the FIS jumping committee, but escalated in the Norwegian public with a debate about women's rights in sport.
Sagen attracted further attention in the Norwegian media in January 2007 when a video appeared on YouTube showing Sagen being brutally beaten by Lindsey Van after losing a bet.
In March 2015 Sagen announced her end of career and justified this decision with a lack of joy in active ski jumping.
Sagen is an athlete ambassador for the development aid organization Right To Play .
