The Ounasvaara ski jump is located on the 204 meter high mountain Ounasvaara in Rovaniemi and consists of several ski jumping hills . The facility includes four smaller jumps of category K 6, K 15, K 25, K 36 , a middle hill of category K 64 and a normal hill of category K 90. The jumps are covered with plastic mattings.

history

In 1927 the first ski jump with a size of 30 meters was built in Pöyliövaara , but it was very susceptible to wind. In 1944 the hill, which was converted to a K 70, was destroyed by the Lapland War. At the beginning of the 1950s a K 55 wooden hill was built again in Ounasvaara and the K 6, K 15, K 25 and K 35 were built in Sorkku on the south side of the Ounasvaara. The forerunner of the K 90 was built in 1963. In the 1970s the K 90 ski jump was rebuilt. In 1980 the K 55 hill burned down, in 1983 it was rebuilt as a K 64 hill and covered with plastic mattings.

The four smaller jumps had to be demolished in 1987 because of road construction. As a replacement, a K 6, K 15, K 25 and later the K 36 were built in Ounasvaara. The Continental Cup has been a guest on the hill since 2004 . In 2005 the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships were held.
