Pauli started for the SC Ehrwald . He attended the ski trade school in Stams. At the Junior World Championships in 2005 in Rovaniemi , he won the individual silver medal. A year later he won the team jumping competition with the Austrian team in Kranj. On January 4th, 2007 he made his debut in the ski jumping World Cup in Innsbruck . His best World Cup results are sixth place at the last competition of the Four Hills Tournament 2006/07 in Bischofshofen and also sixth place on February 7, 2007 in Klingenthal . On February 11, 2007 he won the team competition in Willingen with his compatriots Andreas Kofler , Wolfgang Loitzl and Gregor Schlierenzauer .
For the 2008/09 season he was downgraded to the A-team by the Austrian national ski jumping team. In May 2008 he fell so badly during mat training in Bischofshofen that he was unconscious for a few hours. He was rushed to the hospital where he was diagnosed with severe concussion, severe lung contusion, and multiple bruises and broken shoulder. After that he did not take part in any more World Cup competitions. In September 2010 Pauli announced his retirement from competitive sports.
In the summer of 2011, he became head coach of the Dutch ski jumpers, responsible for both the women's and men's squad. In June 2013 he moved back to the ÖSV and became a management coach at the Innsbruck base.
