David Siegel (born August 28, 1996 in Baiersbronn ) is a German ski jumper .

Career

David Siegel starts for SV Baiersbronn . He started his international career on February 25th and 26th, 2012 with two competitions in the FIS Cup in Baiersbronn, where he finished fourth and eighth. In August of the same year, Siegel started in Einsiedeln for the first time in the ski jumping Alpine Cup , further participation in competitions of the Alpine Cup followed over the next few years. By far the best result for Siegel in the Alpine Cup was a second place in Chaux-Neuve, France . On August 16 and 17, 2014 David Siegel finally made his debut in Kuopio in the Continental Cup . In these competitions he reached places 19 and 40. Since then, he has made regular appearances in the FIS, Alpine and Continental Cups.

His strongest season in the Continental Cup to date was the 2015/16 season . With tenth place in Rena on December 11, 2015, he achieved a top 10 placement in the Continental Cup for the first time. On December 19 and 20, 2015, Siegel achieved his best results so far in the Continental Cup in Rovaniemi, Finland . After he finished eighth on December 19, Siegel won the second competition on the following day and thus achieved his first Continental Cup victory. In December 2015, national coach Werner Schuster nominated Siegel for the first time in the national group in the jumping for the Four Hills Tournament 2015/16 . In Oberstdorf , however, he was eliminated in qualification. In the second competition of the tour in Garmisch-Partenkirchen he reached the 16th place and thus won his first World Cup points.

In October 2016 Siegel won the German Championships 2016 in Oberhof ahead of Andreas Wellinger and Richard Freitag in the absence of last year's winner Severin Freund .

National coach Werner Schuster also nominated Siegel in 2017 for the national group of the German team at the Four Hills Tournament .

At the 2018 summer ski jumping competition, he took second place at the Continental Cup on Midtstubakken in Oslo and third in Klingenthal .

He finished the 2018/19 Four Hills Tournament in 22nd place overall. The so far best individual result of his career he achieved on the weekend after the Four Hills Tournament with fifth place in the Italian Val di Fiemme . On January 19, 2019 David Siegel achieved his first World Cup victory in the team competition in Zakopane together with Karl Geiger , Markus Eisenbichler and Stephan Leyhe . In the second round, however, he fell badly after landing and tore a cruciate ligament , which meant the end of the season for him. Siegel also missed the following season due to this injury, which also tore or damaged the inner ligament , the meniscus and even more in the right knee. When he made his comeback in August 2020 at the Grand Prix in Wisła , Siegel reached the points straight away.
