Mitja Mežnar (born June 30, 1988 in Kranj ) is a Slovenian ski jumper .

Career

Mežnar was a member of the Slovenian team junior world champion in team jumping on the normal hill in 2005 and 2007. In December 2007 he made his debut in the World Cup in Engelberg, Switzerland . At the Slovenian Ski Jumping Championships in Kranj in 2009 , he jumped 10th in the individual and 4th in the team competition. In the Four Hills Tournament 2009/10 he finished 18th in the opening competition in Oberstdorf as the third best Slovene behind Jernej Damjan and Robert Kranjec . At the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver , he reached 29th place on the large hill and, together with Primož Pikl , Peter Prevc and Robert Kranjec, 8th place in team competition. He achieved his best individual placement to date on January 15, 2011, when he jumped to 16th place in Sapporo .

At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2011 in Oslo , Mežnar reached the 40th place on the normal hill and sixth place with the team from the normal hill.

In summer 2011 Mežnar started the Summer Continental Cup with a good 15th place in Kranj . A little later he switched to the Ski Jumping Grand Prix 2011 . In Szczyrk he just jumped into the points as 28th. After he was able to win clear points in Courchevel , Hakuba and 12th in Almaty , he finished the Grand Prix in 45th place overall.

In the 2011/12 season Mežnar launched in the Continental Cup. He immediately achieved a top 10 placement in eighth place in the opening competition Rovaniemi. In Almaty he just missed the podium in fourth place. He also jumped to this rank twice in Erzurum . He then switched back to the A-squad, but missed the World Cup points in all of the jumping competitions of the Four Hills Tournament 2011/12 , which he finished in 41st place overall. Back in the B-squad, he again managed to jump to fourth place in Sapporo . In February he was second on the podium in Oslo and also in Wisła he was able to celebrate another podium finish in third.

At the Winter Universiade 2013 in Predazzo he won the bronze medal in the team competition on the normal hill. For the Ski Jumping Continental Cup 2013/14 , Mežnar is again part of the B-squad in the Continental Cup due to the high level of performance in the Slovenian team and jumped into the points in all competitions in January 2014.
