Primož Pikl (born August 25, 1982 in Celje ) is a former Slovenian ski jumper .
Career
Pikl, who started ski jumping in 1991 at the age of eight and competes for SSK Ljubno BTC, made his international debut in the Ski Jumping Continental Cup for the 1999/2000 season. On December 26, 2001, he had the first chance to jump on the podium in St. Moritz , but only narrowly missed it with fourth place. After he finished almost all competitions in the top ten in the summer of 2003, he made his debut in the ski jumping World Cup on November 30, 2003 in Kuusamo . After failing to score there and in the following event in Engelberg , he remained in the B-team for the Continental Cup. However, his results were also mixed here in winter. It wasn't until the summer of 2004 that he made it into the top ten again in Velenje . He was also successful in Ramsau am Dachstein with two fifth places.
At the start of the 2004/05 season in Kuusamo , Pikl managed to win two World Cup points for the first time with 29th place. This remained the only point placement until mid-December, after which he started again in the Continental Cup and achieved good placements for the first time in winter. On February 5, 2005, Pikl was on the podium for the first time in the Continental Cup competition in Braunlage with third place.
A year later, he was able to achieve his best World Cup placement to date. In November 2005 he achieved 18th place in Kuusamo in Finland . During the entire season he had 18 points, which put him in 56th place overall.
Also in the 2006/07 season he indicated his rising form by collecting some World Cup points. On March 25, 2007, he achieved his best individual placement in the World Cup with 15th place in ski flying in Planica . In the second-class Continental Cup , however, he was able to win a total of six summer competitions from 2007 to 2009. At the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver he reached 24th place in jumping from the normal hill, tied with Emmanuel Chedal .
After the Olympic Games, Pikl tried his hand at the Ski Jumping Grand Prix in the summer of 2010, but in some cases clearly missed the points. Even in the Summer Continental Cup, he was rarely successful. Also at the Four Hills Tournament 2010/11 he clearly missed the points in all individual competitions. In January he was then permanently transferred back to the Continental Cup squad, where he was able to achieve a very good position again in February in Brotterode with fifth place. He also reached the same place in Kranj . He finished the 2010/11 Continental Cup season in 24th place overall.
The Summer Continental Cup 2011 was less successful. The best result among rather mixed placements was a 14th place in Klingenthal . The 2011/12 winter season began for Pikl with lower points. It wasn't until Sapporo in January that he managed to get back into the top twenty. However, he was not able to build on the performance of previous years in the other jumping competitions and thus only finished 52nd in the overall ranking. Pikl accepted his nomination for the Ski Flying World Cup in Planica in March, but had to admit defeat in the qualification.
He started the 2012 summer season successfully with an eighth place in Stams . The second competition was also successful with 11th place. After he later achieved a ninth place in Sochi , he started in August at the Grand Prix jumping in Courchevel . In doing so, however, he again missed the points, even if only just barely in this case. At the beginning of the 2012/13 season , Pikl's performance curve collapsed again, so that he was relegated to the FIS Cup in January 2013 , so since then he has been jumping in the C-squad. In February in Kranj, after a fourth place in the first competition, he achieved third place in the second competition.
