Crawler transporters , also called caterpillar dumpers or chain dumpers , are dump trucks or front dump trucks which, as a crawler vehicle, are equipped with crawler tracks instead of tires :

Especially in military parlance, caterpillars are also used to transport people:

Crawler transporters range from hand-operated variants similar to a wheelbarrow to heavy trucks that can transport a payload of up to 15 tons .

Purposes

Crawler transporters are mainly used in rough terrain or soft ground, as their crawler tracks make them particularly suitable for off-road use. In addition, due to the low ground pressure when deployed on sensitive soils, e.g. B. lawn to avoid undesirable soil compaction there.

Smaller caterpillar transporters are often only designed for low speeds of mostly no more than 15 km / h and are not always approved for road use , so that they can only be used within construction sites or on private property.

Crawler dumpers are often purchased due to their crawler tracks and modified with various conversions. An automatic assembly robot for solar parks that uses a Morooka caterpillar transporter as a substructure was presented at the Intersolar 2012 trade fair in Munich .
