Fredrik Bjerkeengen (born November 11, 1988 ) is a former Norwegian ski jumper .

Career

Bjerkeengen started ski jumping as a toddler. Thanks to the training with his father, who was an active winter sportsman himself, he was able to quickly jump to the top positions. At the age of 16 he started for the first time at national level in the Norges Cup and in his first season 2004/05 won the jumping in Voss straight away . In the overall standings, he finished fifth. In 2005 he reached 17th place on the normal hill and 39th place on the large hill at the Norwegian Championships in Lillehammer . Nevertheless, as a jumper of the B national team, he got the opportunity to compete in the FIS Cup as well as in the Ski Jumping Continental Cup . In the FIS Cup he made his debut on September 17, 2005 in Predazzo , where he jumped straight away to 11th place. In the following competitions in Vikersund and Kuopio he was also able to place within the points and finished 56th in the overall ranking. On March 11, 2006 he finally made his debut in the Continental Cup. However, he missed good placements in both competitions in Bischofshofen and thus also Continental Cup points.

At the Norwegian Junior Championships 2006 in Steinkjer and Rena Bjerkeengen reached 9th place on the normal hill and 8th place on the large hill. Shortly afterwards he also started in the senior class on the large hill in Oslo and was at the end of the 20th. In September 2006 he jumped again for two competitions in the FIS Cup. In Örnsköldsvik he reached the places 19 and 21. In the Norges Cup he won the jumping in Trondheim in the 2006/07 season and ended up eleventh overall. At the 2007 Junior World Championships in Tarvisio , he jumped to 47th place in singles. Before that, he had been eliminated from the Continental Cup several times. At the Norwegian Championships in Molde, which took place shortly afterwards, he did not get past 23rd place after only mediocre jumps.

In the summer of 2007 he succeeded in winning the bronze medal at the Norwegian Summer Championships. From August 2007 Bjerkeengen tried his luck again in the Continental Cup and was able to increase his performance from jumping to jumping. In two competitions in the FIS Cup in Heddal in December 2007, he just missed the podium with a fourth place each. He won two FIS competitions in Westby , which took place a short time later . At the Norwegian Championships in Trondheim in 2008 he reached 21st place on the normal hill and 26th place on the large hill. At the junior championship in Høydalsmo and Meldal he reached places four and five.

In September 2008 Bjerkeengen was finally accepted into the Continental Cup squad. At the start of the 2008/09 season in Lillehammer , he immediately won points in both competitions. He was also able to win points in Villach and Falun . In the end he finished 46th in the overall summer ranking. At the Norwegian Championship in Lillehammer 2009 he reached 19th place. The 2009/10 season started surprisingly well for him. In the Continental Cup competition in his home town of Lillehammer, he jumped to second place and only had to admit defeat to his compatriot Roar Ljøkelsøy . After further rather small points gains in only mediocre or lower places, he finished only 133rd place in the overall standings at the end of the season.

At the start of the 2010/11 season , Bjerkeengen missed the second round in all competitions and thus also won Continental Cup points. At the Norwegian Championships in Voss in 2012 , he was able to win the team competition with the Opplands team for the first time in his career. At the start of the 2012/13 season he qualified for a World Cup competition for the first time in his home town of Lillehammer , but was eliminated as 47th in the first round. On January 26, 2013, he won his first Continental Cup in Titisee-Neustadt . One week he scored the first World Cup points of his career in the two ski flying in Harrachov, Czech Republic , finishing 30th and 24th respectively. However, he was not nominated for the jumping of the FIS Team Tour 2013 by the Norwegian trainer Alexander Stöckl , but returned to the Continental Cup, where he won his second victory in this competition on February 9th at Iron Mountain in the USA could celebrate.

In the summer season 2017 he scored points in a Grand Prix jumping for the first time. A year later he was nominated in this competition for the two competitions on the Hakuba ski jumps in Japan, where he achieved his best results to date with places 17 and 12.

Bjerkeengen ended his career in March 2020 after losing contact with the Norwegian squad and not being able to assert himself against the up-and-coming talents.
