is a place and name of ahistory
The Vosser are said to have been converted by Olav the Saint in 1023 . The Olav Cross between the town hall and the post office behind it probably dates from this time.
The Vangs Church, consecrated in 1277, was built in the early Gothic style, its walls are in places over 2 m thick. Apart from the stone altar, which is as old as the church itself, no evidence of the time of its construction has survived.
The site was largely destroyed in a German air raid in 1940, which is why only a few old buildings have survived.
The International Vossa Jazz Festival has existed since December 1973 and takes place annually in the week before Easter and enables further jazz club concerts during the year.
On January 1, 2020, the Granvin commune joined Voss, which changed its name from Voss commune to Voss herad . As a result, the municipal area grew from 1,805 to 2,016 km², the population from 14,606 to 15,543 (as of January 1, 2019).
