Sjur Lindebrække

Sjur Lindebrække (born April 6, 1909 in Voss , † October 1, 1998 in Bergen ) was a Norwegian lawyer , banker and conservative politician .

Life

Lindebrække grew up in Bergen and graduated there in 1927. He studied law at the University of Oslo and graduated in 1931. He then worked as a lawyer in Nordfjord from 1932 to 1933 and was until 1936 legal researcher. In 1935 and 1937 he made study trips to France and England. During the Second World War he was a resistance fighter in Bergen. At Bergen Private Bank he was Deputy Head from 1940 to 1945 and then President from 1959 to 1968 and Chairman of the Supervisory Board from 1968 to 1976 . From 1945 to 1953 he was a member of the Norwegian parliament in Storting and from 1962 to 1970 chairman of the conservative Høyre party .

Lindebrække was a member of the Norwegian Nobel Committee from 1976 to 1981 . The Royal Norwegian Society of Sciences and Letters , he belonged to as an honorary member. In 1960 he was awarded the St. Olav Order (knight 1st class).
